On December 19th, Lonnie Rowell, Chair of ARNA’s Transition Coordinating Group, and Candace Kaye, College Associate Professor of Curriculum & Instruction at New Mexico State University and an ARNA Founding Member, announced the establishment of Collaborations Beyond the Americas, ARNA’s newest working Group. The new group, tentatively called “CBA” for short, will be co-chaired by Drs. Rowell and Kaye. The mission of the new group is to foster and nurture action research collaborations between ARNA individual and institutional members and action researchers and institutions actively supporting and engaged in action research in various parts of the globe.

The new working group is now developing an action plan for its first project, a multi-institutional agreement involving ARNA and select teacher preparation programs in Asia. As a continent-wide network, ARNA is pursuing partnerships and collaborations within the continent and partnerships and collaborations beyond the Americas. As the framework for partnerships and collaborations develops in the coming years, ARNA will provide many opportunities for action researchers from other continents to share action research knowledge and expertise with action researchers in the Americas and to partner in action research projects. The model being developed by Rowell and Kaye will emphasize a democratic, cross-cultural, and comparative perspective developed through interactions and exchanges of ideas between action researchers in Canada, the USA, Mexico, and Central and South America and action researchers in other parts of the world. The model also will emphasize inter and intra institutional collaborations, with a special focus on agreements with institutions that have a proven track record of authentic and engaged scholarships and collaborations across departmental and academic unit lines.
